I’m planning on buying a Weekend Warrior Superlite SL 3005 toy hauler (http://www.travelonrv.com/sl-fifth.asp) but I have never towed much with my Denali. I have started doing my homework and here is what I have so far:

My 2003 Sierra Denali towing info:
-Maximum Trailer Weight 9,200lb for a 5th wheel
-Axle Ratio (4.10)
-GCWR 16,00lbs
-Tongue Weight 1,500lbs

The article below says the truck has a payload of 1,787-pound does that mean that the manual is misleading? Does the truck have a rating of 1,500lbs or 1,787lbs for hauling in the bed/payload?

http://www.autobytel.com/content/research/reviews/index.../Sierra/Year_si/2003

So back to my purpose… towing a 30ft 5th wheel toy hauler. I’m thinking the 5th wheel loaded will be about 7,500lbs with a tongue weight of 1295lbs plus 100gal of water and 20gal of fuel (add these both once I reach the destination area) and that puts me at about 8,500lbs. I’ll be pushing the 9,200lb max rating for a 5th wheel. How will she tow? Can the Truck tow this weight without reoccurring problems? Will I be able on occasion to climb higher altitudes and maintain speeds of 55mph? And last but not least what 5th wheel hitch and air leveling (bags) should I look at or stay away from?

Thanks, I know she can do it… if I have to I can always super charge her.

2003 Sierra Denali with 22's.

DubducesDenali; check this post:

Tow capacities are for 2005 trucks, but it may help you.

Check this site also. It may help you to calculate the trailer weight.

I know there are QS trucks with 5th wheel trailers; however, 2005 GMC Trailering manual does not post 5th wheel capacities for Quadrasteer trucks. Confused

Howdie, I have a 2003 Chevy Crew Cab 1500HD 4x4. I have a custom tune for 91/93 octane. According to my manual, (which has nothing for my specific truck) going by the light duty 2500 i should be able to tow in the 8 range.

I tow a 26' tow behind attitude with a gvw of 11,000. dry it comes in at a whopping 6800. with three quads, 136 gallons of water (8.3 lbs per gallon) and 36 gallons of fuel (6lbs per gallon), three ice chests full of ice and bevrages, food and clothing i calculate i was towing around 9844lbs with a wdh. I pulled just fine. Merged into highway traffic at 45mph pulled it at 70 with no problems. also pulled a pretty good grade going to oceano dunes in california at 50mph. was extremely impressed.

I am however considering a cam and long tube headers just to make it a little more comfortable.

We tow a 29ft Shadow Crusier 5th wheel (7500-8000 K). Along with clothing, food, bicycles, fuel, water, etc...Add a generator & 55 gal drum full of water for NASCAR race weekends to the weight equation as well. Tows very nicely & can keep up with as well as lead traffic. I feel the wide stance of the back axle really helps stability just as good as a dually does without the sacrifice of extra tires & capacity loss.
The Denali is a perfect RV rig. As a tower and to travel around at your destination as you can just about fit everywhere a smaller vehicle can. No forward/backward/forward...wait my truck's too big!! ie F350 duallies and the like. Blows the onlookers' minds everytime we drive around...priceless!
