Hey Gang,

I'm looking at doing a remote by-pass oil filter setup from Amsoil (BMK13). I'd of course go with Amsoil synthetic oil and wanted recoomendations on what weight to use. I'm in NC and it does hit below freezing during the winter but not for extended periods.

Has anyone installed a remote filter bypass setup likethis

Hi Dave,

That's totally awesome. I've read posts from advocates for and against synthetics and am on the side of the for people. My truck has to last a long time and the cleaner the engine is, the better.

I use Mobil 1, 5W-30 from Nov to end March and 10W-30 rest of the year. Temperatures around here ranges from 0 to 5 deg F from Dec to end Feb with occasional dips to below zero. Mid summer 75 to 80s.

Never used Amsoil, but heard many good things. However, be careful on the oil-by-pass. According to the diagram posted on the web, the by-pass takes 10% of the oil flow that goes to the engine. That means your engine will receive less oil. I am sure Amsoil had done tests on this, but I would have like it more if the by-pass takes oil from the oil pan.
