I have read all the threads on the rearend nosie and problems. Thankfully my problems were resolved with the new fluid. I simply drained the old fuild and replaced. I did occur to me that a cleaning of the rearend maybe in order. Since I did not want to remove the cover I thought of using automatic Trans fluid (ATF). An old timer once told me that ATF has many detergents. He suggested using it when you change your engine oil. Add a few quarts to the crankcase and then running the engine for a minute or 2. Kinda a scary idea but he claims it removes cardon and sludge build up. Prehaps it would do the same for a rearend. Add a quart or 2 and then lift the wheels and turn them?? Any thoughts? Would residual ATF damage the new gear oil?
