Anyone have an idea what the HP and torque limitations are for the Quadrasteer rearend? The stock engine in the Suburban/Yukon XL puts out 335hp/300lb.-ft. or so. Gotta be able to supercharge that...has to be a cushion.

I've seen pictures of a D-Max QS pick-up at SEMA, and a supercharged 8.1L Yukon XL (also at SEMA), but I have no idea what was reliable.

Kevin Lavigne would know but he's MIA.

Anyone else?

Prophet,

I don't have an answer to your question but do have a question of you.

In your sig you have "Accel Extreme 900 wires (needed with the headers)" Why do you need those wires for the headers? I have the same setup on headers and cat back you have with no apparant problems.

Have a good day.

The rear ends in our trucks are very strong. I.m at 500 RWHP and have had no problems, The rears ar Dana 60s, also our transfer case is rated at 2300 pound of torque

Apparently, GM changed their ignition layout on the LS-1 engine sometime around 2005. The headers are a kit intended for multiple applications. The headers will fit on many of the trucks and do fit on my 6.0L LS-1. However, the coil-on-head arrangement has the wires running from the head, straight down to a plug located underneath the headers. Most of the OEM wires fit fine, with adequate clearance. However, the two rear cylinders on the driver's side (I believe cylinders 5 & 7) have a bend in the header tubing that interferes with the OEM wires routing, causing a contact issue. They are too short. Thus, the headers burned through the OEM wires on 5 & 7 causing a misfire in those cylinders. I replaced the 7.0mm OEM wires with the 8.0mm Accel Extreme 9000 wires, universal kit # 9003 (app. for HD trucks, towing, and headers/high temp.) and routed them around the offending pipes.

I called Dynatech's tech line and the guy, who I believe is the owner, confirmed my situation and that the replacement wires were the appropriate solution. He does not cover the issue in the installation instructions.

Having the 5.3L I guess you didn't have the exact same layout as I did. I put that comment in my truck's description so that other 6.0L modders might be forewarned.

Prophet,

The 5.3's have the same problem. What I find interesting is that in the directions that came with my set it was mentioned and a solution was even suggested. What I ended up doing was using 2 zip ties and move the wires so they do not touch the headers.

Thanks for the info and have a nice day.

500 RWHP? What kind of torque are you putting down? I have to believe that torque is the issue mainly because I've heard that the size of the ring gear is on the small side.

Hmmm.

It would be great to see if Dana Corp. has recommended limits for these rearends when using standard Dana gears (which Dana Corp. often rates at continual, and maximum instantaneous hp and torque).

Please keep us posted on your dyno findings. You've put more into developing your engine than anyone I've seen thus far on this list. Do you have any hp/tq goals?

Peter,

I'll bet the limiting factor for torque input to our differentials has more to do with the type of limited slip that is used in the Quadrasteers, rather than the ring and pinion.

Just my 'pinion!

I agree. The 426 Hemi Mopars from the early 70's, such as the Cuda, came with a Dana 60. The weak link may be the clutch limited slip. Replace the limited slip, and your bullit proof.

I'd want to research the choice Delphi made regarding that limited slip first... there seems to be a reason why that particular type of LS was used that is directly related to on road driveability with a steerable rear axle.

Other limited slip designs that may be considered more bullet proof may not have the smooth roadability that the one Delphi engineers selected has.

2004 sd, any updates?

I am wondering what to expect out of my stock rear-end (limited slip) also.
