Hi Gang,

I ran out of my stockpile of DELCO PF59 filters and GM doesn't make them anymore. They replaced it with the PF46. I find that the PF46 is way too short for as deep as the pan is on my 1500HD 6.0l.

Have you all found a good source for PF59s or what filter do you run now?

I'm tempted to byte the bullet and go with the bypass system from AMSOIL and go synthetic. I plan on keeping this this truck for a while.

Give me a shout back and let me know your thoughts!

Thanks

Sean

Hey Sean;

My truck, 05 – 2500 Yukon XL - V6 - 6 lt –LQ4 engine, came with the small filter. At the first oil change, I switched to PF 59. So far, PF 59 is available around here; however, if I cannot find it, I would use Fram 3675. It is shorter than the 59 but longer than the small filter. Go with the double guard, DG3675, as it has some Teflon in it to help the engine.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the reply. I've not heard good things about FRAM filters, so I'll be shying away from them.

I might get an oil filter wrench that fits on a 3/8 ratchet. That should ease my pain of removing the PF46 filters

When I used the spin-on filters, it was usually K/N, puralator. I'm currently trying out a Canton Mecca- 200 series(4.25" tall). It has a aluminum housing with a removable threaded bottom cap. The element is a high flow synthetic oil filter element(8 micron), which is removable through the bottom cover that is threaded into the body.

They advertise the element can go 10,000 under "normal" driving conditions. But they do note that if oil pressure drops to 4 lb. to 5 lb., it's best to change the element. I'll see how it does.

Hi Quadrant,

Thx for the info on the CM filter. Do let us know how you like it. It looks like the startup for this filter is $100 and $13 for replacement elements.

That's definately less than the Amsoil bypass system and less of an install.

On a side note, Ernesto has been dumping on us here in NC all night. I hear the rain coming down as I type.

Sure will Sean. Between the synthetic oil and this filter, I'm hoping it will be cost effective and provide a "cleaner" oil change. Like you, I'd like to keep the SD for the long haul.

At least Ernesto will blow out for the weekend, best of luck up there.

Ah.... it appears that there is a Delco that will fit that is taller than the PF46.

Any one know of a larger oil filter than the PF47 that is on the 6.0L

Your 6.0 (Along with the 4.8 & 5.3) calls for a PF46,Not a PF47.
You can use a PF61 in place of the PF46,It is a longer filter like the PF59 was.

I'll be checking this out in about 3000 miles. I just changed my oil yesterday and had to put that damn wimpy PF46 on.
