I had my Chevy Silverado 04 in for an oil change and the dealer said that my Transmission Cooler Line and Engine Cooler line were leaking. they wanted about $650 to replace them. How hard is this to fix on your own or should I look for a good non-dealership mechanic to do the work?

The lines can be changed with out to much trouble. You will need to buy a set of quick release sleeves for the hoses and a set of metric flare nut wrenches. The sleaves are slipped over the line and pushed in to release the clips. These are also used on the heater hoses. Most of the newer GM cars use these hose and clips. The front grill will need to be removed. Don't wait to long if they are leaking because they could split and blow a trans or motor on a short drive to the store.

You should upgrade the transmission cooler to a larger after market. The stock unit is very small.

Good luck.
