Ok, I just test drove an 03 Suburban 2500 with a 6.0 and Quadra... I have acouple of concerns. First off the steering feature is awesome but my long time friend who is also a mechanic and a huge chevy fan told me to stay away from the quadrasteer cause its expensive to fix when broke. He also did say he actually never worked on one but fealt they were prone for problems. Is this true. The deal is so good and dont want to pass it up but the concern of parts availability, knowledge of the system, etc worries me. Any advice is appreciated. The truck has 60000 miles on it and I was wondering what long term mileage tests or people on this forum have gotten out of their trucks with quadrasteer. I plan on drivning it until it dies so I dont want expensive problems. thanks in advance for any help given...

Hi,Welome to the club. After driving a Quad Steer, I just can't help myself from wanting to never be without one. I would believe that your mechanic friend is probably right as far as expensive to fix. As far as prone to problems,I have an 05 and haven't had any problems yet.(31,000mi.)I don't know if the earlier models had problems, but I know that there were some soft-ware updates, becase(I think ?) they would kick out of the fourweel steer mode sometimes.Although not really a problem even mine has done this a couple of times.I just stop and turn the key off,and start it again, and it must reset itself. It's only done this twice to me in the very cold weather. Now as far as prone to big problems, I had the same concerns when I was considering buying one too. So I thought that I would ask around. As luck would have it my nieghbor, who works for G.M.,brought one home for while. I asked him all about it and told me that the Quad-Steer was a very reliable unit. Also I Have a friend who was working for Delphi World Headquarters at the time. So I asked him to find out all about it if he could. He got back to me,and told me that everyone there who drove a truck,or suburban would never buy another without Quad-Steer! He also said that they said that the axle and components were very heavy-duty,and made for at least a 300,000 mi.longevity, and went through severe testing, and was a very reliable system. Don't quote me on any of this info,or geek you up to much, because you know how vehicles are,one can have problems and another has none. I really like mine, especially the the way it trailer tows at highway speeds, and turns and parks at slow speeds. I think it's really incredible! I would read through this forum, cause there's alot of info from others, about Quad-Steer. Look through the technical archives. Hope this helps you in your decision.

Thanks for the reply... As it turns out the moron salesperson sold the truck from underneath me this morning as I was on my way to finalize the paperwork. I guess someone gave him an offer he couldnt refuse... Anywho, thanks for the reply and I will still be on the hunt for one. I actually called a local dealership and the service guy said in the 6 years he has been working at the chevy dealer he has only seen a few with minor problems... I just wish they offered the quadra on the 1500 series suburbans Frowner. I dont tow anything and would rather have a 5.3 motor with the better gas mileage. A 2500 series is a little overkill for me... anyway, thanks again the search continues
