Hi, I am new to the club and desperate. The controller on my 2002 Sierra Denali died in December and the dealership tells me there are no replacement parts currently available. Has anyone else heard this or (worse) experienced it? There is supposed to be some deal in the making between GM and some other company. However, after the On-Star fiasco, I am getting a bit nervous. I am also getting tired of running over curbs. I miss the QS.

Check other dealers, or call GM directly.

Did they perform a diagnostic with Tech-2? If you know the codes displayed, we might help to pin point the problem.

Make sure that the problem is not due to a bad terminal at the controller connectors.

It sounds like the dealer wants to pass on the repairs. Most of the dealers never sent anyone to the quadsteer classes. So they don't know how to repair it. All manufactures in the USA are required by law to have replacement parts for a few years after production. I don't know what the time frame is but the last year they made these was 2005. Thats less then three years and they don't have parts. It sounds like a lot of dealer crap to me. For about $200.00 you can buy the five GM factory books that covers everything on your truck. These are the same that the dealer is required to have on hand. It is a lot of fun when you are getting stroked and you whip out your set of books and start giving them a piece of your mind. I have even offered the service dept to use my books so they can repair my trucks and cars. If you come educated they will give you a straight answer or find a new dealer.
Good luck

I would first clean all the connectors, if that doesn't fix the problem you can find them on e-bay, I just bought a new one for 275.00 for a spare.

Ditto on the grounds and connectors. Got a module from the same Ebay seller. It's not impossible, but very difficult to obtain QS specific replacement parts. If you come across parts available and can afford it, you'd be wise to purchase it as an investment, if your going to keep the truck.

Like this recent steering module purchase for example, through the dealer, it would cost ~$1100 new and with an install price of ~$2700. Even at the "Buy it Now" price of $425 through the Ebayer seller, the choice is obvious. Also, the module is an easy DIY.

I was just quoted a price of $1,729 from a dealer for the replacement of the steering module on my 2004 Sierra Denali. I am still trying to regroup from the idea of that price tag!! Would dirty connectors show up as a bad terminal on the Tech2 diagnostics?
How difficult is this replacement for a fairly handy do-it-yourselfer?

I just had the same problem with my 02 denali qs. The dealer told me the part (rear steer control module) was discontinued for the 02 models only, you can still get the ones for the 03 and up.
Does any one know the difference between the two years or if the 03 model part will work with 02? My dealer says no.

Please help i need my QS!!

Thanks,
Matt
