Heya everyone,

I stumbled across a link to a website that seems to be down and found these forums using a cached version of that website.

I am the owner of a 2004 Silverado LT4 in black with tan leather seats. I love the truck, well the quadrasteer anyway. I just rolled 30,000 miles on it and just had my 3rd engine installed!

This truck has been a warranty nightmare for me for 12k miles now.

Water pump was replaced at 17k miles.
Engine started blowing a cloud of steam out the tailpipe on occasion. Several trips to the dealer were made but they were never able to duplicate my complaint. Then the engine started to knock like an old diesel on a cold morning on startup. Again, it would not make the noise while at the dealer. Finally, one morning at around 23k miles the engine would not crank over at all. Well, first time anyway, it started on second try, cranking slowly like a dead battery. Rattled like mad, got towed into dealer and they found a blown head gasket!! Damage to engine internals warranted replacing entire engine.

Five thousand miles later, new engine tosses out a cloud of blue smoke that smelled of oil 2 times over several weeks and begins knocking on startup again. Several more trips to dealer to hunt for mystery noise on startup but to no avail. Finally they here it, they replace all of the lifters on right bank of engine and send me on my way. Too soon though the noise returns, after 3 days it is back in the dealer with same complaint, they again here nothing and I go home dejected.
The very next morning it knocks again and I return to dealer and ask that they keep truck until someone hears the noise I am talking about, even asking that someone drive it home for the weekend. They hear the noise on second attempt at starting it and I am told they will start work on it the following Monday.
Three days pass and I get a call telling me that I am getting another new engine. This one has a crack in the head or block. They found oil and coolant in a headbolt hole that should have been dry.

I am at wits end with this truck, I LOVE the quadra steer and was bummed to learn GM dropped it from the lineup, otherwise I would sell this thing off and buy another and hope for better luck.

I really hope this site is not dead, looking forward to getting to know other owners of these vehicles.

Sorry to hear your ordeal with engines. Hope the new one runs without a problem. Are they offering an extension on the warranty?

Are they using new GM motors? That is unusual for a new motor - very odd.

Thanks for the replies, I am told the engines get 3/36000 warranty's. I just hope I do not need to test that.

I was told they were new "crate" motors. Looking at the repair order, I see engine REM which leads me to believe they are remanufactured not new. I worked for a Ford Remanufacturer several years ago and would not be pleased if this is what they gave me. I asked pointed, direct questions and was told repeatedly these were new, not reman. The second engine failure sure sounds like it could have been shoddy rework.

I suppose I could poke around and look for casting numbers on the block. I may have a high school buddy I heard was head parts guy at a dealership about an hour from me. I may call him and get the inside scoop on what they put in it.

2 days, 4 starts and no noises yet!

I have been trying to look at my driving habits for a possible clue as to whats going on. Let me see if I got this right, insert key and turn, wait a few seconds once engine is running, apply brake, shift into gear and go correct??
No heavy foot save for the occasional need to merge into traffic, no fluids leaking onto the ground, I only drive 8 or so miles each way to work but my 98 saturn handled 80k miles with me driving with only 2 cracked exhaust pipes and a 12 disk cd changer that jammed every other week as my only warranty issues. I even got 65k miles on original tires and 80k on the original brakes replacing them for my peace of mind more then an immediate need to.

I am frustrated and the guys at work are getting a good laugh about all of this!~ We'll see how long this one lasts I guess.

Wall- Sorry to hear about your problems with the rig. Hopefully this works out for you. Which dealership are you taking it to (being a fellow Minnesotan and all)? Also Welcome to the Club!

Well, it is with alot of sadness that I report my days with my 04 quadrasteer seem numbered.

Looks like it is getting bought back in a couple weeks. I am looking at 08 silverado's now, really wish/hope they bring the QS option back someday.
