I think that GM has screwed the pooch on this one - It really makes the Fords and Dodges look pretty good. The headlights were grabbed from the Dodge mini vans of the mid 80's, and the grille came from a Nissan. I had a 1978 Ford Fiesta that had the same type of bumper caps - this is not the retro look that works.

I'd post a barf smiley, but there aren't any in the list.

For this bodystyle puke

What would have been wrong with the front from the Tahoe, that I like. We'll see what comes up for the GMC front clip.

It appears that the Silverado's front track has been increased over that of the new Tahoe, (itself whose front track was also increased over last year's torsion sprung front end to accomodate front coils inline with the king pins supported by the new cast aluminum lower A arms.)

To keep the rest of the body the same width, retaining the same windshield and hood size, it appears that the front fenders were restamped with an integrated flare, plastic bumper corners extended the width of the front bumper, leaving only a wider grill module to drop in to complete the front end with only a minimal amount of new sheet metal to accomodate a new front track that is even wider than the new Tahoe's.

It appears that more robust lower control arms, wider coils, larger wire diameter of the coils, a heavier duty IFS differential unit, or some combination of any or all of the above could have been driving factors behind spreading the front end a little wider, using mostly plastic to get it done (other than the revised fender stamps).

That's what it looks like to me, anyways.

That's all well and good, but you can tell they never held any design clinics on this body style. If they did, this truck would be much better looking. They could have just streatched the Tahoe / Suburban front end to make it work, but I guess they wanted to keep those lines separated.

As for the Coloradoesqe flares stamped into the fenders; it doesn't work for the Colorados, and it certainly doesn't work for the new Silverados, in fact, it just cheapens the look.

I really think GM screwed the pooch on this one.

Yes, I was talking only of the aesthetics of the styling. Not sure why they need to differentiate the looks between the SUV and P/U. Seemed to work well for years by putting a bed in one and enlosing the other. I'm sure the engineers have put a lot of thought under that sheetmetal, but I'm with SS Crew, taking the design cues from a "mini" truck just doesn't work. Have fun trying to reach over and load something in that truck.

I'm certainly no designer of trucks, but if I have two pictures, one is the styling of this truck and the other is a take-off of the Tahoe/Suburban......which would be the choice? I know what my choice would be. It's kinda like what their doing with the Camaro. An obvious hit, now they don't know if they want to produce it. Go figure.

Maybe they'll surprise me with the GMC version.

I like the look of the new trucks. Only reason I don't trade is the lack of quadrasteer availability on the new ones.

2003 Silverado 4x4 Quadrasteer, 74,000 miles and counting. 1989 Celebrity, 34,000 miles and counting..slowly.

All I see is "TITAN". They just look cheap and weak. Honestly you cant say they didnt copy the Nissan Titan truck. I think you might be able to drop a Titan clip in the front!! Damn wouldnt that be sweet? Fack if I wanted a Nissan I'd pay less and buy one.

GM is realizing that the cost of fuel is forcing more and more ppl to look for that better fuel milage and "lighter looking truck". Time will tell is this stratigy holds up. As to Ford they still have there big rugged massive look. Dodge well who the fack cares about a dogde, lol. I'm looking at a 05 1500HD with Quadrasteer (7k miles). But tempted to buy one of these new 2500HD with the 6.6 Diesel and Allison. I want to tow a 5th wheel toy hauler.

Well see... I never do like the new trucks untill they grow on me skull krusher
