Hello, I test drove a 2004 Chevy 2500 crew cab 4x4 for an entire day. I really like the truck except for the fact that the quadrasteer reverted to two wheel steering three times as I was testing it while in four wheel drive.

I thoroughly tested the quadrasteer in two wheel drive, and it was awesome. In four wheel drive with sharp turns it would go back into front wheel steering only.

The truck has 57771 miles on it. It has alot, a whole lot, of electronics on it, but most are covered by a four year unlimited mile warranty.

I almost want to get this truck, and if the quadrasteer would have worked the full time it would already be sitting in my driveway, but all of a sudden I am finding what may be some decent deals on crew cab 2500's with 4x4 that previously were no were to be found. I may test drive one today.

I have read about the quadrasteer goin' out on yall while doing some quick, hard turns while in two wheel drive, I believe, but the one I considering only did it in 4 wheel drive. So should this be less of a concern? Could it be that I just turned too sharply for it in Quadrasteer?

After going back to two wheel steering the service the Quadrasteer message was showing, but I killed the ignition and restarted it and it was working again, but the problem produced itself twice more. Once when I was doing a little u turn in 4WD low at one mile per hour.

Also I read on here that if the axle wasn't lubricated with a special lubricant that the axle would fail? How could determine this, or what is the lubricant?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I really really like this truck. It is a little more than I wanted to spend, but it has alot more than I was planning on getting too.

Welcome to the board! You answered your own question about the 4 wheelsteering bombing out. Under hard manuvering the system will not keep up and fail. Cycle the ignition and 4wheelsteering will work again. The gear lube is an additive that is required when the rearaxle is serviced. If the axle has never been serviced then you should be ok until that time comes and then be sure to put the correct fluid in.

That is a safety feature of the QS.

At that mileage, I'd have the fluids all changed out, motor and driveline. I change the driveline fluids at around 30,000 miles. Could try to negotiate in the deal and have the dealer pay.

For that QS diff, make sure the dealer knows the correct fluid to use. So often they rely on what's on the computer screen. Do a search and retrieve the correct P/N #.

Welcome aboard and GOOD LUCK!! Big Grin

Welcome to the Club… Smiler

At very sharp turns on 4WD, wheels might bind, especially on dry pavement, and QS would detect a speed difference between the front and the rear, resulting an error message. However, if the truck is at a dealer, have them to check the DTC code the QS system is displaying to make sure there isn’t any other problems. If the warranty covers the QS system too, I wouldn’t worry much.

Alright, but this one didn't do it in 2WD, during hot doggin', only in 4wd and the manuever I was doing was a 1 mph turn in 4wd low.

Also in 4wd high while doing forward reverse 90 degrees, or the circumfrence of a 90 degree angle if that makes sense.

Anyway, I found another one just like it with 15k+ miles less for less money, and it has a bed liner, cattle guard, and tool box which the other'n' aint got! BUT in is pending someone's financing approval.?

Well, this is a big decision for me, and I am excited, but I want to make the right decision. The Quadrasteer was awesome, but it is also sort of concerning as to it's potential cost to maintain or need of repair.

The ones I thought may turn out to be a good deal were a hunks of junk.

Now, I found one, without Quadrasteer for a reasonable price, just shy of what their asking for these others and only 42k miles.

I don't know, but I sort of want to get one with Quadrasteer.

For those of you with the extended cab Denalis, how much room is in the back?

Can most passengers ride comfortable back there?

I need enough room for passengers to ride in the back comfortably.

Thanks for all the replies.

The sales guy says his sources say there is nothing wrong with the Quadrasteer.

The 90 degree turns were on wet pavement, but still could have been different speeds.

The 4 wheel drive low turns were on grass and mud.

If the other Quadrasteer is sold, then I am feeling that I may just go with the other.

I did not mention in my first post that I took the truck to my mechanic, and he found no major problems, but he said he had only seen one Quadrasteer before.

Thanks again.

If carrying passengers are one of your top priority, then a crew cab is your ticket.

Xtra-cabs would be a little tight.

What's the verdict? Did you go with this Crew Cab?
