HI all,

Looking for some guidance; I am in the market for a late model truck. One has come available with Quadrasteer. It is a 2004 Denali 1500 GMC ext cab truck. In my price range, low miles 28,000 still under warranty etc... My concern (Placed there by a competing salesman who represents a truck without quadrsteer at a different dealership but who is also a GM dealer) states that if I consder purchasing the Denali that the quardasteer could pose a problem. He suggests getting an extended warranty if I buy that truck at all. I actually know this fellow pretty well and trust him, yet I want to make sure he is giving me the straigt scoop on the Quadrasteer, vs being concerned with making the sale by placing undue concern on the QS.

I can imagine since this site is for QS enthusiasts that you won't knock QS all that much. I just want some honest opinions as to whether QS is more of an issue for a non mechanical type like me. More concern for warranty down the road? And lastly if the QS does not work can the truck simply be driven in normal AWD if the situation warrants it, or would a repair to the QS be required to run the truck in normal conditions.

Thanks for helping out a neophite QS potential buyer.

PS, Why is QS no longer available on GM vehicles? At least that is what I was told.

Swede, Quadrasteer is awesome! I have 55,000 miles on my Yukon XL and it has been flawless. I have never taken it out of 4 wheel steer. I did buy the extended warranty on mine but have not had to use it yet. The quadrasteer axle is a pretty simple feature, not a whole lot to go wrong. A starter and A/C compressor that went bad paid for my ext. warranty. So, I don't think it's a bad idea. Just make sure it covers "rear steering axle".

Swede;

You can turn the QS mode on or off. If Quadrasteer stops working, truck will switch to the standard front-wheel-drive. You would not have any problems driving the truck.

If you chose to buy the QS, make sure to check the maintenance history. QS Axle requires a special lubricant, if the standard GM or aftermarket lubricants used, axle would fail. Search this site for more info.
