Hi All,
Been awhile since I visited the site, so glad it is still ticking along!!! For the last little while, when ever I use my seat heaters, driver side or shotgun, they will come on just to the point of heating and then off they go. I can put them on again, but the just keep doing the same thing. I am wondering if there is a fusible link in-line somewhere that is heating up and opening. Anyone have any ideas? I don't have any electrical diagrams and so it is down to performing a wire trace, which I am really not looking forward to. 2003 Silverado Crew Cab 1500HD 4x4 Quadrasteer 6.0L BLACK...like the dog! Hi Dawg,
I have an 05, and I had problems with my seats too (thank God under warranty).Mine were working sometimes and sometimes not working. When they work I could hear a little click sound from a module,I think somewhere under the dash. The dealer said that they repaired the electrical connector on it, and it took care of the problem. That was about two years ago and all is well with them.So it could be the same problem or a faulty module.Maybe you could have somebody turn them on and off while you listen for the click, and locate the module, then check the connector and module out.I would guess that the module is a relay that turns them on and off. I am not shure how the 03 works compared to the 05's though.I do know this, that in 05 they started using multiplexing wiring methods, that sends information from some or all the device swithes in the vehicle to the c.p.u.,and then it turns on the particular unit or device, through a signal to the unit or device.this saves wiring and weight in the vehicle. I hope this helps. Dave |

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the suggestions, I will do that. Regarding the thought that it might be a CPU, all I can say to that is "I HOPE NOT!" 2003 Silverado Crew Cab 1500HD 4x4 Quadrasteer 6.0L BLACK...like the dog! Hi Dawg,
I doubt that it would be CPU problem. It sounds more like a connector/module, wiring or circuit breaker problem. It seems from what you say, that the heater elements in the seats are ok,cause they come on and work for awhile.Hope that they aren't shorting out, causing a circuit breaker to pop open, but it would have to have an auto reset built into them. the controller for the heated seats is under the drivers seat - the temperature of the seat is controlled by a thermister that is part of the heating coil in the seat. I would guess either a connection at the seat module is bad, or the seat module is bad, or the thermister / heating element.

Thanks srode. I didn't have any luck with the "click" under the dash so I'll check into your suggestion. Be nice to have this addressed prior to winter. Leather seats can be COLD when you first get in.
