I couldn't figure out whether or not to put this under Electrical or Engine... feel free to move this thread accordingly.
Has anyone had any experience with Remote Starters? Do they cause problems with the PASSlock system or does the PASSlock system interupt with the Remote Starter's operation? Does the Remote Starter disrupt any other of the engines or computers systems? |

I saw on another forum where it was mentioned many remote starters require some kind of bypass. This is bought seperately from the initial pacakge.

Thanks for the info guys.
What is the name or part number of this secondary component (besides a bypass)? When I pick the Remote Starter up is it going to be obvious to the retailer or is it something that is vehicle specific? I have the 2004 Sierra Denali. Is it something your average Joe can install by himself or should it be done by a dealer or shop with diagnostic equipment? I did one about 7 or 8 years ago in a 74 Toyota Landcruiser, but the closest thing to a computer in that thing was the aftermarket stereo. Thanks in advance, Scotty This message has been edited. Now you are making me think. If I recall correctly mine is the bulldog system. From what I have read the installation should be simple. They now have what is called a T-harness so splicing of wires is no longer necessary. As for the bypass modual I called the company directly and they told me what I would need.
Unfortunately I may have given you more questions than answers. Best bet would be to check out the company website or give them a call to find out if anything else is needed for sure. Look into Astrostart. They have a great reputation and I know many on the Diesel Place are using them.

Thanks for the input Prophet,
I put some serious research into this since my last post on the subject. I found that I really liked the features and reputation of Clifford. I found one of the Clifford G5 - Avantguard 5 units new in the box on eBay including the Cliffnet Wizard (to configure all of the Remote Starter/Security features through a laptop computer). Web Page I bid on and won the auction at just under $300 (great price!!!). Talked to the seller who also happens to be a professional installer. He told me that yes, I would definately need a bypass harness. After winning the auction, he sent me the unit and threw in the bypass harness FOR FREE!!! One of the neat features with this system, aside from the abundant security features, is that the system can monitor the outside temperatures and start you vehicle automatically when it gets to a temp above or below whatever you set it at. It will also watch your battery level and start your rig up if the battery gets below a certain level. This is perfect for me since my work will leave me having to park my truck for a month or more at a time every other month. You can add more available components by daisy chaining the components together. I also doubt I will ever need the 1/4 mile range on the remote. This message has been edited. The new 2007 YukonXLs and Suburbans come with OEM "remote start" directly from the factory, with the button built in to the GM key fob!

Astrostart 2205 has the option to start and run for a defined period of time if the temp drops below a temperature you set. Also with the right passlock bypass will turn on heated seats and rear window/mirror deicer below 32. 2 other ouputs remain for other devices, 2000 ft range, and you can add an alarm as well if you want. Pretty nice, have one ordered but not installed yet.

Finally completed my installation on 2004 GMC duramax, 2205a. Installation time about 6 hours soldering all connnections. Tried it this weekend at the Cincinnati airport while in the main ticketing terminal coming up the escalator from the terminal train, started my truck which was parked well out of sight in the short term parking. Amazing range! I've used the remote starters on the new GM cars when I had a rental with it, and there is NO comparison, you have to be pretty close with the factory system for it to work.

okay, i've had the remote start with bypass with my viper alarm about two weeks after i bought my '05 QSteer 4X4. The issue i have always had was when i remote started it, the service 4 wheel steer message would pop up. if i turned the car off and restarted, the message would go away. has anyone ever experienced this and is there a fix?

In my last 2 QS trucks I haven't had this problem. Sounds like a wiring issue not working with a sensor of some kind. Just taking a guess though.
Have you tried contacting DEI? This message has been edited. Last edited by: DrtyBrty, 03 QS Arrival Blue, 6.0, Leather, Heated Seats, True Duals.SOLD and regretting it. Project car 67 Camaro. |
