I have an 03 Sub 2500 w/QS, and I would like to go larger on the tires and/or/ wheels or both. I know that the standard wheels are 16" that I have already on the vehicle, can I buy new wheels @ 17" or 18" that will still fit the vehicle. Could I also get larger tires for my 16" wheels and what size will fit with no problems?

Any suggestions I just want it to have a bigger more rugged look?? I originally wanted to lift the it but the local trick truck store said that they don't make components for a lift in the rear for a QS (is this true)???

RubiconSub,

As for the size of tires you can go to without having to lift the vehicle, I would suggest asking the dealership. My truck came with 17" as standard. Also I will check at home later to see if I still have the sizes my dealership said I could use without lifting the truck.

For lifting yes it can be done. I haven't done it but do know there are people here on the site that have lifted their vehicles.

Where are you at in VA? I am in Warrenton.

Have a nice day.

Bill,

Thanks for the info, I did some reading on this website and found that the bridgestone revos 265/75/R16 load E or C is what most are suggesting on here. I am currently calling around to find out if I could lift it a little. Also do you know what I can do to save on the gas mileage, because adding bigger tires does not help much.

I am in centreville VA.

thanks Matt

RubiconSub,

The only thing I can come up with off the top of my head to make better gas mileage is easier driving habits or a tune. I do believe some of the tuner's can adjust things to get you the better gas mileage.

Here is the information that Country Chevrolet gave me concerning tire size on my Silverado as maximum tire sizes. 285/65/17, 305/55/18, 305/50/20, 285/45/22

I work close to where you are living. I work close to the highway 28 and 50 intersection.

Have a great day.

Look up a member named "Kong" on this site, with an avatar of a black gorilla. He has a QS Sub, and in my opinion, he set upon the most researched quest ever to find wider tires and wheels for QS SUVs that would still work without issues.

He ended up finding some (rather expensive) 8 lug 18" wheels that were both weight rated and pressure rated, and then found some tires to match that were equivalent to what you might find on a Porsche 911 Turbo.

Of interest is that he specifically sought to keep the overall diameter of the tire the same as the OEM 245/75R/16's. He did not seek to "fill the wheel wells," as so many do. He was after wider meats for summer handling performance, and he was also seeking a larger wheel for a future planned Brembo six piston brake upgrade, which I'm not sure if he ever got around to.

During the winter, he puts the stock tires and wheels back on.

See if you can find his posts, since he talked about it a lot last year.
