I know! ...I just can't seem to locate the answer I am looking for so I am starting another thread! blush

I am looking for new tires and I am wondering: Should I request for "something" to be done to the suspension system if going from the recommended P245/75R16's to a larger tire such as P265/75R16 on the same(stock) 16" wheels? Does the dealer tech know to turn the t-bars a notch or do I have to specify? is it required to make any modifications to make sure the QS system stays in balance?

The truck actually has P255/70R16's AMERITRAC GENERAL M+S?? the outside corners all have worn out while the center and inside corners still have some thread. My guess: the system was not adjusted properly to account for the lager than recommended tire size? beats me I was surprised, after reading through some posts, that these American tires lasted almost 50k miles. Comparatively, not too bad for "stock" tires. The truck is mainly driven on hwy/asphalt.

Any input? Thank you.

If you get new tires make sure you get the truck aligned as soon as possible.

I've got much larger than stock tires on my truck, and had to run higher air pressure (45 lbs psi.) to make the tires wear evenly. The edges were feathering on the outsides, insides were fine. I thought the alignment was off, had it checked and it was right on. My alignment guy said just pump up the pressure and that will take care of the irregular wear. And it did!

You really need to put on some big meats to fill up those fender wells and give your truck an agressive stance.

I really could fill in that gap but does that mean new wheels as well? We would love to get them but I think we will have to hold off and just get tires. Frowner

I will definately try to up the pressure. I have not had the alignment checked but Im sure that is not the reason in my case either. Actually nevermind, I can not up the pressure on the current tires. Their max is 44psi!!! (1030lbs load)??! eek II

It looks like you have a serious alingnment problem there, son. skull krusher

See if you can find some factory 20" take offs. Those would look good on any QS truck.

Wow! I dont know why I was so convinced that it was not an alignment problem! I have had the tires rotated/balanced every other oil change but had not done an alignment. So all four are worn equally. The goodyear shop I usually take it too didnt ever say anything either. Mad

I guess I have no other choice but to get new tires and follow it with proper alignment. Anyone selling their factory 20" take offs?!! Wink

By the way Mr SS Crew, how would putting 20's on my truck affect its handling? Do I need to go out and buy a Wester's gadget to re-configure the truck's QS system? ...take it to the dealer and have them do it? burn out II

20's would definitely make your handle great. A Wester's tune would recalibrate your speedo and you'd get that great Wester's tune to make your truck run like a raped ape.

How can you go wrong? burn out

I have 20' on my truck. They are 285/50/20, as for the handling I found it to be a lot more stable now. Also the grip when I need to get up and go is there.

Now of course once I wear these tires out it will be interesting to see how much taller of a tire I can put on the truck and still keep the 285/x/20 numbers.

I just put in my westers tune last week. What a difference it has made in performance.

Enjoy your truck.

Judging by that tire, i would have to say you have to much toe in. If I am looking at the picture right that is the rear wheel. I am thinking that it would be almost impossible to have to much positive camber on the rear, and caster is set by the leaf spring blocks, so that leads me to the toe diagnosis.

depending on the miles you have on your truck and if that wear is present on both sides, the other two possibilities could be: Bad tie rod ends or a bad king pin.

I replaced my stock 245's with 265/75 revo's. They ride and look great. Didn't get the computer re-flashed or anything, no problems. no rubbing and the truck got lifted some too. The bigger tires look WICKED!!!...oh, I've got the HD1500 though...

Hey, Quadra06, look what I found for you:

Factory 20" wheels

They're more $ than I thought they'd be, but I'm sure if you keep looking around you'll find something that works for you.

Good Luck,
SS
