When backing a boat into the water is there any concern with the QS getting wet?

No.

Do a search of Quadrasteer on the net and you'll come across pics of testing done in door handle-height mud and water.

If lauching a boat caused the system to go tits-up, we would have heard of that glitch a long time ago.

Welcome, Dave cheers Got yours, yet ?!!?

The QS unit is water-tight. Like Prophet stated, it was tested in plenty of mud (see it on the homepage here.), and the thing was developed to mil-spec standards. Water is no obstacle to QS thumbs up 2

In fact, one member, Jim, is driving a QS that was submerged for 3 days in 5' of near-freezing water, and one thing that hasn't given him any issues ?? You guessed it- Quadrasteer hail !!!! You can read that here.

Heyya, Jim, how is that truck doing, btw ??

And yes... I finally got to see an 02 Chevy Quad blush Razzer Big Grin !!!!

So... does that reassure you ?!!?

Ooooh, you like that?? It's even a steep, muddy mess on a private lake where I back it in, too. that funny Without the 4x4, I'd have been calling the neighbor to borrow his Bobcat.

It's going back in this weekend... I'll try to remember to get a pic. headbang

Here you go boys, I figured a way to get it posted.

You know how your horse gets hot on a long trail ride, and once water gets in sight, you have to really fight it to keep it from taking you for a swim? Well,

This is what my truck does twice a weekend through the summer... to launch the jetski.

Looking at that picture makes me feel like I'm in the ancient Roman Colosseum, watching Gladiators tear mercilessly into live human subjects...

I turn my head away and wince, and yet look back again in disbelief. Even while harboring (and outwardly denying) a perverse enjoyment out of seeing the act done, I am glad I'm neither the gladiator nor the victim!

I have, however, pulled a sinking truck out of a lake before. A truck that got there by doing the same thing... launching or retreiving a jetski. And the sinking truck I pulled out was on a concrete boat ramp!... nothing close to the muddy, sandy, algae slime and water reed beach like the Quad above.

When the boys came running up the hill calling for help, I didn't know what the problem was, I just fired up my diesel and rumbled down there... only to find a poor guy's head in fish bowl floating on top of the lake. Only this fish bowl had a metal cover around it... one that I recognized as the sheetmetal cab of a 1959 Ford pickup... But where was the rest of the pick up?

The only other part I saw was the front of the hood, with the emblems confirming the make and model of what was soon to become a fresh water submarine.

This truck was sinking so deep, so fast, that one of the boys literally had to dive underwater to find a place to hook the tow strap. The kid in the cab was eyes wide open, frozen with fear. Turns out he was "borrowing" his father's cherry restored 1959 Ford pick up, which may have been 4WD to boot... I don't remember because by that time 4x4 didn't matter). It wasn't clear that the kid had permission to take the truck out of the garage, let alone take it trawling for catfish. And with water up to the window sills, if the catfish weren't swimming in the cab by this time, I expect that little brown logs might have been..

As I pulled the truck out, columns of water poured out everywhere, like a submarine ejecting ballast water. It was a heavy pull, with all that water weight. I don't know how long it took the guy to slip that far down, but he clearly didn't intend to go that deep just to launch his jetski.

After seeing that, I resolved then and there to never try to launch a jetski by submerging the rear of a pickup. One never knows what might happen with water. But I've always wondered what the kid driving learned... especially after his father found out!

Well, I've been launching jet skis at that spot for years with Toyotas, Fords, Chevys and GMCs... all 4x4s with no problems.

If I didn't know there was a pretty rocky base under the muck, I might think twice... but there's never any drama to it. I make my wife do the back-in and pull-out (careful now) so I don't have to put my wet arse in the leather seats after sliding the jetski in and out.

The toughest part of the whole operation is getting the jetski to slide on the RhinoLiner... that stuff is stickier than anything, even when wet. I have to lay a sheet under the jetski to get it to slide at all.

I HAVE had some scary moments with 2-wheel drive, full-size vans at cement boat ramps, with a boat trailer that REQUIRED getting the back wheels wet... YIKES! Thank God, nothing like you described.
