Welcome aboard Polaris Doc.
Appreciate the advice. I would have to say that competency with that good faith is just as important. Knowledge about what your walking into the dealership about, saves alot of aggravation. Kudos to you and your attitude towards your customers. Unfortunately, not everyone behind the counter has your due deligence. 2003 Pewter GMC Sierra Denali, 6.0L, WESTERS 93 HOT Tune, 4L60E-HD mod.,PML extra capacity tran. pan, 4.10/9.75R, Outlaw CAI, Corsa Touring/4.0 Pro tips, Magnacor wires, AC Delco irridiums, Dynatech header/powercats, LineX, cryo-powerslots, Hawk HPS, Stop-tech/Goodridge SS brake hoses, TYC carbon fiber tails, Black DDU grill, Autowoods Steering wheel, A/C filter retro-fit...for now |

Forgot to mention that it took 9 weeks to get my truck back from the shop. I'm in VA now for military training, and I had to leave the truck up in CT, but they at least put it in the garage for me. I'm a real stickler when it comes to dealerships cuz i've been on the other side of the counter since i was 16, so i can usually tell when they're blowin smoke! anyways, the hold up was apparently due to them trying to get parts. They (GM) were in the process of dealing with different vendors, had to order a spider gear twice, broken case spreader, and due to the fact that i didn't need the truck anytime soon. If i remember right, I actually had somewhere aroud 28k miles, but close enough. seems that's the problem time frame on most of these posts.
Quadrant: I've always tried to help customers out as much as possible. warranties are getting harder these days due to the manufacturers wising up and due to the ever constricting controls they put inplace. Now one thing that always perturbed me about warranty issues is that any slight mod and it would usually void the warranty. On a case by case basis, I would make exceptions if i could. The manufacturer doesn't know what you've done to your vehicle (besides certain computer codes that can get reflashed), unless your dealer spills the beans. Most of the time the mods didn't cause the problem so why even mention it to the mfg in the first place?!! So if you can get in good with a dealer's service dept with anything you own, that is worth more than getting a good deal when buying the vehicle! I am curious about many of the mods on your truck. How is your mileage now, power, etc? I'd like to do something to get more than 13 mpg, better braking, lighting, etc. I do all my own work unless i dont have the equipment, such as alignment, so not much scares me anymore. Afterall, it's all nuts and bolts right! you got any pix of your truck? later '04 Sierra Denali Stock mechanicals Escalade door handles-best look improvement 20% tint all around |

Yea, I know what you mean, I had a long running relationship with the dealer parts department guys at Toyota, for about 17 years till I needed to step up in size. Now having to start over since getting the SD back in 2/2005. Mileage on my truck runs the same, 13 mpg. A tune will give you the most bang for the buck at the start. Guys have gotten approx. 3-4 mpg improvement. Most of the mods I've done is for better flow efficiency. I'm very happy so far with the improvements done. After all the engine is not much more than a large air box. The braking is much improved. Make sure you replace the brake lines when you do, otherwise it doesn't make much of a difference in pedal pressure. Replaced some of the OEM parts to the trans internals to hardened pieces, as well as replacing the OEM trans pan to an extra-capacity pan. Has lended itself to crisper shifts and moderating temps. The tune will also help in providing better shift points also. Besides the nice power gains the improvements have given, you might want to look at some of the TSB(trouble shooting bulletins) to replace some of the OEM parts to the replacemant pieces. Just to eliminate any headaches down the road. I've wanted to get a tune for some time now, but the SD and I have not been in agreement as to the next improvements. It's like right now I'm ready for the tune, but the tonneau is slowly coming apart(stitching). I hope some of this info has been helpful. Talk to you later. 2003 Pewter GMC Sierra Denali, 6.0L, WESTERS 93 HOT Tune, 4L60E-HD mod.,PML extra capacity tran. pan, 4.10/9.75R, Outlaw CAI, Corsa Touring/4.0 Pro tips, Magnacor wires, AC Delco irridiums, Dynatech header/powercats, LineX, cryo-powerslots, Hawk HPS, Stop-tech/Goodridge SS brake hoses, TYC carbon fiber tails, Black DDU grill, Autowoods Steering wheel, A/C filter retro-fit...for now |

Hi Guys. I just want to give your a big thank for your posts in this thread. I recently had my 4WS actuator replaced under warrenty for a Service four wheel steer dic message. When I got it back it had the growl intermittantly. Took it back to the dealer and of course they couldn't duplicate the problem. Then I found this thread and took copies to the dealer. They replaced the fluid and it made a dramatic change.
In addition to eliminating the growl it also fixed a driveline clunk that appeared about the same time as the growl but I didnn't associate it with the rear end. The clunk was pretty bad and I took to starting off very gingerly to lessen it. It felt like there was play in the driveline. After the new fluid change the clunk totaly disappeared. My burb drives like new again. CharlieT 2004 Suburban 26,000 miles charlie 04 Suburban 6.0 3.73 4WS |

Hi.This is my first time posting and I like this site and the 4ws idea so much that I have just committed to the purchase of a 2004 GMC Sierra 4x4 with quadrasteer. I hope everything goes well with the purchase and the truck, so that later I can come back here to show off my truck and join the ranks of the 4ws community who drive the most usefully innovative vehicles on the road. If anyone has any suggestions for me before I buy, they have very little time to warn me, they should let me know because on Jan 10 2008, I will be a Quadrasteerer like you.

Welcome to the club.
Just check the maintenance history of the truck to make sure that the correct fluid was used for the QS differential, if it had been changed. =============== 2005 Yukon-XL 2500 Quadrasteer 4WD =============== |

I flew to Ontario on Jan 10, 2008. Picked up the 2004 sierra 1500 with Quadrasteer, and drove it back home to Labrador. I love the way it handles, both slow speed and highway speed. It takes very little time to get used to. I will keep this one as long as I can since getting another later will probably be difficult. It is extended cab, black with chrome steps and rails. How would I be able to get this vehicles service history? Everything seems to work well after a 3000 km drive. Lets hope it stays that way.

Congrats tommylee! Welcome to the fold.
Not sure how to get service history. I think you will need to have a friend at the dealership that is willing to get you that info. I have not been successful at that EVER.
