I've started towing my truck behind our 40' diesel pusher. All works fine except that the miles continue to roll on to the odo while it's being towed.

I've been doing the transfer case to neutral deal and leaving the keys in the ignition/column unlocked. But it seems like once I put the transfer case in neutral, the column lock no longer functions. I have not confirmed that, though, so would appreciate any feedback on this. If that is the case, I can stop leaving the key in the vehicle, which would presumably keep the miles from accumulating.

I know on the Jeeps (newer wranglers, GC etc)when being used as a tow behind the tranny, transfer case need to be in nuetral. The key should be turned to the on position (to keep the steering unlocked) and the negative battery cable be disconnected.

Just as a followup in case anyone is curious. There is no steering lock on GMC trucks from at least 04 on. I've flat towed my QS a couple of times now with the key not in the ignition, truck in park (transfer case in N, of course). Worked perfectly. And the mileage no longer counts up on the odo!

My 2003 was towed behind something (plug in the bumper and missing towhooks, dealer confirmed) and it had 105k when i bought it off the back lot last July. I wish I knew how many miles were actualy (motor tranny) on it. It had over 4000 hours though so I'm not sure???

Anyone.
