I notice a small bit of oil around the front of the rear end by the pinon shaft, I only have 55k miles and hope its not a common problem, do I just need to change the front seal?

I had the same problem at around 32,000 miles. Front seal changed under the waranty. Make sure to have the correct differential fluid added to make the loss.
