Okay guys maybe you can figure this one out. Looking at future replacement of my rotors, Power Slots. On the descriptions they have 2 different ones for the rear, here is what is said;
5.3L, V8, 1/2 ton, 4wd, Extended Cab, 4 wheel steer, 325mm Rear Disc or 5.3L, V8, 1/2 ton, 4wd, Extended Cab, 4 wheel steer, 330mm Rear Disc How do you know which disc you need and what exactly are they measuring for this measurment. Have a good day. This is the information that I have;
The 330mm is used for the 2-piston caliper, the 325mm is used for the single piston caliper. There is a difference in the inside face offset between the 325mm and the 330mm. If the incorrect rotor is used, the inside pad will eventually be pushed out of the alignment channels, resulting in a drastic change in brake pressure and loss of fluid. PIC #1 shows the difference when using a 325mm in place where a 330mm should be used This message has been edited. Thank you for the update. Now I can feel comfortable about which rotor to get when I do have to replace them.
Just for clarifaction. When you say 2 piston caliper you mean there are 2 push points on each side of the caliper? Thank again and have a good day. Bill This message has been edited. Bill, it's real easy, don't even have to take the wheel off, the caliper will have a "scalloped" cut-out where the piston(s) is at. One for the single and two cut-outs for the double (obviously).
One or both piston(s) will be on one side of the rotor. 2003 Pewter GMC Sierra Denali, 6.0L, WESTERS 93 HOT Tune, 4L60E-HD mod.,PML extra capacity tran. pan, 4.10/9.75R, Outlaw CAI, Corsa Touring/4.0 Pro tips, Magnacor wires, AC Delco irridiums, Dynatech header/powercats, LineX, cryo-powerslots, Hawk HPS, Stop-tech/Goodridge SS brake hoses, TYC carbon fiber tails, Black DDU grill, Autowoods Steering wheel, A/C filter retro-fit...for now |

How about if you have an 8-bolt rear hub flange on your 2500 Yukon XL/Suburban? Nobody seems to make a rear brake rotor, or upgrade kit for that app. I'd like the rotors at a minimum.

Rear Power Slot Part Number 8655 PSR/PSL is listed for: 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 3/4 Ton 2WD Heavy Duty, Quadrasteer REAR 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 3/4 Ton 4WD Heavy Duty, Quadrasteer REAR 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 3/4 Ton Full Size Pickup 2WD Heavy Duty, Quadrasteer REAR Almost universally, P/N 8692 is listed for up front. But the sister vehicle, Chevy Suburban 2500 QS and GMC Yukon XL 2500 QS is not listed and just states "TBA". I thought the HD 8-lug rear axles were the same between pick-up and SUV. -P. That would be correct, Prophet, Dana Corp. made one axle for the 1500-2500 series. An excerpt from a news release in October of 2001;
"The Quadrasteer system employs an axle well known in the industry -- a Dana Model 60. Dana made several design modifications to assure the axle fit within specified space parameters and met durability standards and axle-weight ratings -- all without disturbing the vehicle's full-perimeter frame design, which would have added significant cost. Newly designed steering knuckles and an integrated cast spring seat and tube yoke provide the necessary turning radius and required strength to deliver maneuverability and dependable service. Quadrasteer is offered on many Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pick-up trucks, as well as some Chevy Suburban and GMC Yukon sport-utility vehicles." Dana and Delphi only manufactured one version." If you find the cross-reference for converting the oem rear calipers for an aftermarket aluminum, I would be interested. I did a little research early on, but haven't had the time to go back and follow-up. What I would like to see is a write-up on your diesel conversion in a new topic. I've read some thoughts on the subject, but one concern was exceeding the capabilities of the Dana 60 easily with a diesel. 2003 Pewter GMC Sierra Denali, 6.0L, WESTERS 93 HOT Tune, 4L60E-HD mod.,PML extra capacity tran. pan, 4.10/9.75R, Outlaw CAI, Corsa Touring/4.0 Pro tips, Magnacor wires, AC Delco irridiums, Dynatech header/powercats, LineX, cryo-powerslots, Hawk HPS, Stop-tech/Goodridge SS brake hoses, TYC carbon fiber tails, Black DDU grill, Autowoods Steering wheel, A/C filter retro-fit...for now |

Well, I've contacted SSBC and Wilwood. At that time, both said their products would NOT work on the 8-lug 2500 HD axles. I don't know if there is a custom application that can be worked out, but there didn't seem interested in working on it. I might just upgrade my fronts and paint the OEM rear calipers to match. Might see if I can get some Cryo'd rotors in the rear. As for the conversion, I'm not working on a write up just now, but it's suprisingly straight foreward. Not quite done yet. I checked all around, Currie Enterprises, Strong Axles, and a few others. All said that the Dana 60 is used heavily in racing and that I should not be too concerned with the power issue. I know for sure that Delphi had a number of Duramax pickup test mules running around with the stock axles and they had no problems that I know of. They wanted GM to offer one for sale. To be on the conservative side, I wil not go crazy with the power adders...just a mileage tune and/or minimal propane, for mileage purposes. Stock engine makes 360 hp and 650 lb.-ft. at the crank. Dyno tested at 310 rwhp. Add the MBRP 4" catless exhaust and PowerTube and I'm probably going to reach and additional 30 rwhp. as per previous dyno runs. Probably looking at Level 1 tune: 50-80 hp, and 80-100 hp on propane, MAX. I know of a number of converted, American Axle-equipped Duramax Suburbans with LB7 and LLY engines and Allison 5-speeds that are getting around 20 or 21 MPG (better aerodynamics that a pickup). My LBZ with the 6-speed is running at a better RPM range on the highway. The tune should get me +3 or more MPH and the propane is good for an additionmal 20% or so...figure 5 MPG. So, I'm hoping for around 28-30 MPG at 70 MPH. A write-up will follow once I get the whole shebang finished and tested. -P. 2005 GMC Yukon XL 2500 SLT Quadrasteer 4x4, 1SD Package, 3.73s, U59 Silver Birch Metallic 6.6L LBZ Duramax Conversion Allison 1000 6-speed tranny with SunCoast/McRat 1057 Converter and Transgo Jr. upgrade Mike L. UPDATE: *for us 8-lug, SUV guys*
I contacted Mark Craig at Diesel Performance Parts, a retailer of Power Slot brakes, and he got back to me with the following: "OK took me some time to get this all sorted out, sorry. Anyway what Powerslot says is the right item for your application is the 8569 front rotors and the 8655 are the rears. I would definetly reccomend cryo treating as well, takes a couple of weeks sometimes but well worth it in my opinion. Hawk pads are 322Y717 fronts and 324Y673 for rears, call me at 866-455-7788 and I'll be glad to help you. Mark @ DPPI" So, for some of us in the Quadrasteer community, there ya go. -> 2005 GMC Yukon XL 2500 SLT Quadrasteer 4x4, 1SD Package, 3.73s, U59 Silver Birch Metallic 6.6L LBZ Duramax Conversion Allison 1000 6-speed tranny with SunCoast/McRat 1057 Converter and Transgo Jr. upgrade Mike L. Quadrant...
Thank you very much for posting those comparison pictures of the rotors. There is a substantial difference between them, beyond just 5mm of diameter, and only pictures could communicate that clearly. Thanks again!!! Prophet.. Thanks for your follow up on the 8-lug 3/4 ton versions for the SUV. It makes sense that the 3/4 ton pick ups would have the same hub and rotor as the 3/4 ton SUV. It would be good to compare them side by side like Quadrant did. I actually met Mark Craig 5 years ago in TN, back when he used to sell aftermarket air and exhaust kits for a company called Western Diesel. ___________________ |
