Hi Gang,

I hope you guys can give me more info on this new issue I have. Recently on startup, I hear a rattle that sounds like it may be coming from the exhaust area. I havent had a chance to roll under the truck and have someone else start it to confirm. I've tried searching the forum for various keywords but could not find any previous posts.

I did however find a handful of posts at gm-trucks, but there was no single fix for the issue.

Has anyone here experienced this and found a fix whether it be a self fix or stealer fix?

Thanks for any ifo you can provide.

Sean

Does it do it only hot or cold, or does it matter ??

Might try having the someone start it with you under there to help isolate it beats me

Let us know what you find. What'd they say at GMT ??

I didn't hear a rattle, but when I picked mine up from the dealer the first time I noticed the tailpipe was hanging a bit low. I got right under and saw it was hanging free from the rubber bushing/hanger it was supposed to be in. Right from the factory--nice. Anyway, it might have rattled had I not caught it right away. At least I got a free oil change out of it when I pointed out that the stealer missed it in the pre-delivery inspection!

Easy to check, hope it helps!

It happens when cold and hot. I'll crawl underneath and get my wife to start it for me so I can ATTEMPT to isolate it.

The fixes on GMT ranged from " loose baffles in the muffler - Replace muffler, Install counter-weights on the exhaust, install stainless flex connectors infront of the Cats, to reinstalling the surge tank
http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=211...haust%20rattle&st=25

Oddly enough, the last one fixed the problem for that person.

Hi Gang,

Haven't had a chance to do any further investigating on this issue. Started a new job, It's freaking cold outside and I haven't wanted to do much of anything outside.

Will keep you posted.

So, I still havent had a chance to diagnose this for lack of help.

From my reads on gm-trucks, one person had loose baffles in his muffler. Assuming that's my problem, does anyone know a good aftermarket muffler that won't make my truck loud or break tha bank? I dont like hearing my truck like some people. I like it quiet Smiler

I also don't want to change my exhaust.. I'll stay with my single pipe out the back.

I could just see how much a new stock muffler is but why put stock back on if I can get a better one. headbang

Problem is fixed! There was a clamp just before the port side catalytic converter that wasnt doing it's job. I could bang on the pipe where they joined and could make them rattle. Found a local good ol boy muffler shop and he spot welded it. NO more annyoying and embarrasing as hell rattle. headbang

I tried putting my air ratchet to the clmap, but she wouldn't budge.

It was horribly aggravating! Almost as bad as the cold start knock. While I was ready to replace the muffler ( thot it was loose baffles), I'm glad it was just $20 worth of spot welds!

Silent power rides again! burn out
