Hi, whenever I am on uneven surfaces driving my truck I hear a loud Clunking noise coming from underneath. If I go straight on a dirt road the clunking noise moves from side to side with the rocking of the truck. It seems like it is coming from the front of the truck. It also is really noticeable when turning into a parking lot or shopping center where the pavement dips down. I have a 98 Savana van as well and it does the same thing only A LOT louder. Sounds like a barrel is rolling around under it. Does anyone know what the this is. It drives me nuts!

This isn't the infamous syeering clunk? It requires an intermediate shaft lube if that is the problem.

No I don't think it is that. I just had the truck to the dealer to have the shaft lubed because it was rattling and you could hear it from inside the truck. The lube fixed the shaft rattle, but there is still this LOUD clunk. It sounds like water sloshing around in an old steel barrell(something like that) if you can imagine that. I thought it might be the gas sloshing in the tank, but I can feel the vibration from the clunk under my feet while driving. You would think that the dealer would have noticed if there was some other problem with the intermediate steering shaft.

I have the same problem...had it to the dealer a couple times and they haven't figured it out yet. I am taking it back next week...I'll keep you posted or let me know if you find out what it is!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I'm going to take it to the dealer next week as well and drive it with one of the technicians...I'll let you know if I find out what it is!

The advice I would give to you guys is before you bring it back to the dealer, print out the TSB(trouble shooting bulletin) on the intermediate shaft replacement, as well as other bulletins pertaining to the vehicle. The original design is inferior to the replacement, just change it out. Simple to do yourself also, just 4 bolts, slide out old and slide in new, I was done in around 30 minutes. On that same note, Borgeson also has a shaft for around $250, alittle more expensive, but is another option.

Depending on your mileage(30,000), might be a good idea to change out/flush the fluids in the pumpkins, as well as the transmission. Sounds as if it might be a worn seal at the hubs or at the carrier bearings to the diff. Just throwing out some ideas from your comments and don't mean to muddy the waters anymore.

Slightly off topic... where can I search for a bulletin? I have the bulletin number but I don't know where to look them up.

Many thanks!
