Can they ever be restored back to the original condition?

And as with any question there is a story. My '05 'Burb with QSteer got rammed head on by a car full of unlicensed drunk young hispanic men. Considering I was able to get my speed down below 40mph by the time of the impact the airbags didn't deploy so I'm hoping that the impact didn't make it all the way through the crumple zone (which I've heard is replaceable)

Hope you're alright. That's a pretty hard hit. Those new pieces should bolt right into the original location. Hopefully the main frame wasn't bent. But with all the high tech stuff they've got now with lasers, they should be able to make it as good as new.

Dang, hope you're okay !! Hope your truck is okay. Strange the airbags didn't go off Confused If you were doing 40 and they were moving, you'd think a 40mph+ impact would do it !!

If your frame is damaged, I'd want a new one, but I already know how crappy insurance is Mad

But like Crew said, with all the computer and laser technology, they'd probably get it pretty straight.

Good luck !!

I thought I would swing by and post an update.

In case you were wondering a new frame costs $2700.

Believe it or not but after nearly two months it is still in the shop (make sure you guys check your insurance policy to see if ya got anything to cover the cost of a rental... finding carpools can suck) but it's going into paint today (finally!)

So if you take a look at
Photo One and
Photo Two and then the
Repair Estimate (of course they also had to replace the steering column...oh I can't wait to see what the steering computers thought of that)

Jeez, the other car is wasted and it doesn't look like the other driver was wearing a seat belt by the round hole left in the windshield above the steering wheel.

On the other hand, your Sub actually looks pretty good considering the hit that it took. Check to make sure there aren't any ripples in the roof along the top edge of the doors or rear windows. If there are, tell insurance to get going on the "total paperwork" and you want a new vehicle.

Glad that you were alright after that impact. Things could be worse. Cool

Any updates on the repair? How did they do the frame swap? Did they cut the old front frame off then use a jig to weld on the new one? Details please..

Hey its been a long time since I came back and posted an update.

As you know the accident happened when my truck had 6k on it. After 3 months and $20k later (insurance money of course) I got it back and have since put another 6k on it (1/3 of those are heavy towing miles).

Unfortunately I can't tell you what sort of repairs you can expect since the insurance company elected to force the shop to replace everything with new. They didn't do any cutting or welding whatsoever since they had a full frame shipped in from texas.

During the first week after getting it back there were plenty of strange electrical problems. The keyfobs didn't work, the passenger mirror extended differently than the driver's, etc. All simply required a half hour at the dealership with the tech-2 to fix.
