I've got an '04 2500 Q-steer crew, I'd like to change out my shocks to something more compliant. My problem is that I've got the adjustable ride shocks - you know, 2 settings, hard and harder. The problem is, will I screw up anything by not using "electronic shocks"? Can I just zip tie off the plugs and pull the fuse for the shocks?

I read where one guy had these shocks, replaced them with Bilsteins and just left the connectors loose.

No codes and much improved ride thumbs up 2 .

What's the difference between "adjustable, electronic shocks" and "Autoride" ?

I have "Autoride" with electrical connectors plugged into my shocks. But I don't have any way of "adjusting" my electronic shocks... hard, harder, or otherwise.

No shock tube adjustment setting that I can see, and no dashboard switch that I can find.

What's the deal with these factory "adjustable" shocks? What was the option called?

Every Quadrasteer vehicle I have so far seen, be it truck or SUV, was equipped with Autoride. On my Autoride, there does not appear to be any provision for user adjustment.

What am I missing here?

Some of the QS trucks come with what they call the ZX3 Ride Control suspension...they are electronic adjustable shocks with a button on the dash that you can push for a softer or firmer ride. The problem is the softer setting is still very stiff, so some people have been changing them out for shocks that provide a smoother ride. I am thinking about doing the same thing, but when I go looking the manufacturer says they don't make shocks for the ZX3 or the QS. So, I am wondering if the shocks you can buy for the regular 1500 will fit the rear on the QS?

Since the shocks are electronically controlled, will it be possible to adjust the ride setting with "THE TUNE"?

Sorry but not sure what "The Tune" is? As far as I know if you put in different shocks you just unplug the old ones and tie up the electrical lines..

Gunny, no, a tune won't effect the shocks.

If what was said about tow/haul mode stiffening the factory shocks is correct, then that feature would remain with the stock shocks and a tune.

Of course, swapping the shocks will render that feature in-op.

Hope that answers your question.

Mpls, read about custom tunes here.

Hey Mpls Quad,
No I haven't persued the shock deal yet. Actually now that my truck has passed the 50k mark, the truck doesn't feel so bad.

I have noticed that the torsion bars must have settled a little because I can hear the front tires rub on the lower outer edge of the SS facia I put on. But it's not enough to crank 'em up a notch. I don't really like the nose-high off road look.

buds cheers

That's what I did with my Bilstein HD's. Just zip tie the connectors.

Let me know if pulling the fuse disables the DIC message.

If it works, which fuse?

I haven't done my shocks yet, but they are on the list. My problem is I seem to eat up those 20" tires at every 25,000 miles. I'm ready to start on my 3rd set. $$$

Are you getting a DIC message? What does it say? Try looking in your owner's manual for the fuses and relays, it should show you which one is for the shocks.

Cool

Hey Prophet,

Do you like the Bilstein HD's? I am looking for a smoother ride on the raod...would you recommend those? Did you order the ones for the regular Yukon then? I am thinking the regular shocks will work on the QS, but I want to make sure first. Thanks!
