I just found out about the performance tunes and I'm thrilled that something might boost the MPG on my 03 GMC 4X4 6.0 w/QS.
I searched the archives but couldn't find much info on wester's competitors. I'm sure its worth it, but the Nelson tune, for example, appears to be half the cost. If I am not concerned w/the future vehicle upgrade benefit, does anyone know if the Nelson tune is as effective?

Welcome, 66 cheers

Nelson tunes aren't quite half of Wester's, but they are a little less. I thought $50...

You will get nice results from Nelson's tune, no doubt, but he doesn't have near the experience Lyndon does, and in fact, often goes to Lyndon for assistance...

I know Lyndon knows a few things he doesn't share, so, while there are quite a few that would argue all day with me about it, I say, YES, Wester's tunes DO have an edge on ALL competitors.

And the warranty is more than just upgrades, it's also for general operation, and the UNHEARD of full trade-in value warranties. All for life. The trade-in deal is good as many times as you buy a new vehicle- how about that ?!!?

Quite possibly the last tune you would ever need to buy.... is that worth $50 ?!!!?

Great, thanks for the info! I must have looked at it wrong, because I thought it was under $300 for the Nelson version, I probably looked at the wrong application.
Where do I sign up? Also, I read about the ability to have re-programs (for new tire sizes, etc) done for only a small shipping fee, but I also saw mention of $45 for s/h? Is this correct?

laff, yeah, Nelson is a little cheaper, but not half-price.

The reburns and trade-ins are free, but shipping is $45. Lyndon is in Alberta, Canada.

However, we're getting more and more US reps, and some are set up for burning, so we can very often keep it in-country and cut shipping in half, or less.

We can even do remote burns where you don't even have to pull your ecm, we can just plug into the OBD-II port and do it from a laptop drool

Signing-up, eh ?!!? You won't be sorry Big Grin

Tell ya what, I start an official sign-up thread so y'all know when the 5 member minimum has been met. Who knows, that might even entice others !!!

So five have to get "on the list" to buy one at all, or just at a discount?
Also, I can't find any info on the effect this may have on factory or extended warranties?

No, you can buy these tunes anytime. There's only one or two "authorized" sales year-round.

I ALWAYS offer my customers 10% rebates, on everytune, everyday. So you can always get a killer tune at a discounted price thumbs up 2

Right now, we're having an authorzied sale. My distributor has agreed to it, so in addition to my normal discount, I also get to pass on the sale rate.

What I offered to my buddies here is, with the sale, everyone can get a 15% discount on the tunes, but if we can get 5 or more QSClub members to purchase tunes, I'll up that discount to 20% Eeker !!!! My own little "group-purchase" w/in the g/p !!!!!!!

That will be just about the lowest price on Wester's tune you will find ANYWHERE !!!!

I *think* we have two guys now, maybe three. I'm hoping y'all will get together and take advantage of the deal- the tunes are KILLER, and you'll never see the price lower.

On the warranty, we have NEVER had a warranty issue due to our tunes. They are invisable to the dealer and the Tech2. It's been argued, but we've had GM techs use their scanner on their own trucks with tunes, and they couldn't find anything out of place.

The real concern here, I think, is it's possible to go to the dealer, for whatever reason, and have them update your ecm and erase your tune. If this happens, Wester's will send you a new tune for free, just cover shipping.

But you'll have to drive on a stock tune for up to a week eek II !!!! THAT would be the REAL problem Razzer !!!!!!!!!!

When your tune is burned, it will have all of the lastest GM updates. But updates happen at no set interval, so it's possible to be outdated over night !!!

What many do is find an extra core or simply pay the core charge and keep their stock ecm. They only take 5~10 minutes to swap. Unless your an 05 owner, cores are cheap and fairly easy to come by. 05's are almost immpossible...

Anyway, swap out ecms if you have to go to the dealer, and they can flash away Razzer Big Grin !!!!

I paid $300 to keep my stock ecm cry I wish I knew there were other sources bang head

I posted a thread with core suppliers here.

Hope that answers your questions Wink Ask if you have any others Wink

just to clarify for anyone who may run across this thread while researching ecm tunes. The Nelson tune is NOT any less expensive (for an 03 GMC 6.0, anyway).

Thanks, Tom. I don't know where folks have gotten the idea that Wester's tunes are so expensive and Nelson tunes are so cheap. They're like $50 different across the board.

And since MrQ always offers 10% to his customers, Wester's are actually less Razzer !!!!

[MrQ look off towards San Antonio... home of Neslon tunes...]

Who's yo daddy ?!!!? WHO'S YO DADDY ?!!!!!!!?

[MrsQ calls to MrQ]
What the hell is your problem over there Eeker Razzer loco

Has anyone tried using a power programmer like a Hypertech Max Energy Programmer or a Superchips FlashPaq Tuner to program the computer themselves?
I know everyone has had great experiences with the Wester's tunes, but I'm just trying to avoid the shipping charges everytime I need it retuned.

I use the 2004 ver. Hypertech. This is the pre Max ver. Unlike the Webster you can change the tire size, shift firmness and shift points. You can also pick the 87 or 90 gas program and return it to factory. This is usefull if you need dealer service and they reprogram the computer. With Webster you have to send it back and pay again for a new program.

Maybe someone has tryed both, I don't now if one is better or not.

It has worked well on my 2005 GMC Crew Cab 1500HD 6.0 motor with Volant cold ram air intake and 180 degree Tstat.

In your opinion, was it worth it? Did you notice the difference after using it and did it do what it claimed to do, ie, more power, better fuel economy?

I installed it before I pulled my 15 foot inclosed trailer to Chicago and back last month. I found that I had to remove the firm shift because it slamed in to overdrive. I thank that in the trailer mode the shift is already firm. I got 9.2 MPG over the 5,000 mile trip. I was loaded with about 1K in the truck bed and 6K on the trailer with a 30 mile head wind alot of the trip. I would have thought that I mite get at least 10.5 MPG. It had good power till I hit the wind and Flag Staff, AZ. I just droped it to 3rd and had lots of power.

I just returned the computer to stock with my corrected tire size for the trip to Napa, Ca. and Reno, Nv on Wed. I will drive it for two or three tanks and see how it runs then replace the tune for the trip home. The trip should be around 1,500 miles. I will let you know on the MPG.

I just got back last night from my trip that was 1,300 miles. I ran the factory tune for two tanks of gas and got 12.5 and 12.9 MPG. I then reinstalled the Hypertech tune and got 14.9, 16.8, and 15.4 MPG. It looks like with hills and some head winds on the trip that the Hypertech tune is worth the money. We are now paying in Ca. just about $4.00 per gallon for gas. Two or three MPG better sure adds up.

I had about 1,000 lbs in the truck bed and no trailer on this trip.

I hope that this will help

Brad
