Just before i sold my tuck I did a Westers 89/91 Hot tune. Truck ran better, pulled off of a stop quicker just overall was a more responsive and powerful truck. For the cost wise a handheld vs Tuned PCM I would choose a tuned PCM.

03 QS Arrival Blue, 6.0, Leather, Heated Seats, True Duals.SOLD and regretting it. Project car 67 Camaro.

Brad,

That right there has leaned me towards getting the tuner. I feel you on those gas prices, I'm just south of you in Orange county, so I feel your pain. I recently returned on a road trip with the truck and I wasn't getting that great of gas mileage either and I had less than 1000 lbs of gear in the back. I think the best I ever got was 14 mpg and that was running through New Mexico where it was nice and flat, but the rest of the trip, I was seeing right around 12 mpgs.

Now with the hypertech tune, are there different versions when you purchase it? You said you have the pre max ver. are there differnt versions? Are they updateable through the internet or are you stuck with whichever one you buy? Are you running stock suspension and stock tires or have you changed those?

This information has been a great help. Thanks again.

Lee

Bfrest - make sure you are hand calculating mileage not using the DIC - all programmers throw the DIC MPG off significantly.

socalquad and srode

srode, I ran the miles on the truck with my Garmin GPS and they are with in 1/2 mile every 1000 miles. I have ran the numbers by GPS and gas put in at the pump. Both the truck and math are very close. The truck computer runs about 1/2 MPG more and shows 1/2 gallon less gas then I put in most of the time. I worked the tire size in the programer till the GPS and truck matched real close. As the tires wear this will change.

socalquad, I have the 2004 ver. The Hypertech Max is the latest. Double check this because they can not be updated. I am not sure if the tables have been changed on the newer unit or the older ver will work just fine on your truck.

Keep your Mass air flow unit clean and air filter. If the Mass is dirty it will trick the computer with the wrong air temp and air flow. You can wash it by spraying a good electronic cleaner on the fins and sensors. They will build up a film on grime over time. I clean mine about every 10,000 miles. Country trucks will need it more often.

Good Luck

Brad

Socalquad

I forgot to answer your last question. I have changed the tires and rims. I run 17" H2 chrome rims and 265 R70 17" Reva all weather tires. As I said above I adjusted the programer for the tire size change. I have the ride control option so I have not changed the shocks or the factory setup.
