Bill,

I went to TBryne to check on them myself, in addition to the electric fans they sell.

They had the 160 degree you want but not the 180 degree that I'm looking for and no electric fans for our year so I emailed them the question. I'll post what they tell me.

I was able to order a 160 through Autozone today. They didn't have one listed for the 2005 so they went back and found one for the 2003. You all don't think that will be a problem do you. I can't think of anything that has changed on the engines in the past couple of years.

Thanks for your input Oddball.

MrQuadrasteer, I tried to use TByrne's website but again couldn't find one listed for my year. Figured it was easier going through the local Autozone for ease of return if something doesn't fit right. Also they can have it to me on Wednesday this week.

Looking forward to the tune.

Glad you got yours Bill!

Here's the response from Tom:

Hi Sean,
We carry the 160 thermo for your truck but I haven't seen a 180 available. I might be wrong but I believe most of the 2005 trucks have electric fans. If not, we can get you the Flex-a-lite package.

Thanks,
Tom
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My follow up was:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep, everyone I’ve talked to is surprised that my ’05 has the mechanical fan. Maybe it’s a HD or trailering package thing? Anyway, what’s involved in swapping the fans (I hope it comes with instructions)? Have you heard of a downside to using them?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion... crazy eyes

And the verdict is:

quote:
The fans listed on our site should fit your truck. The package comes with installation/wiring instructions. This can usually be done in a couple of hours. I've used them in the past and didn't have any downsides. Good mod to pick up some horsepower and fuel economy.

Tom

Unfortunately found out today that a 160 thermostat for a 2003 won't fit in a 2005 Silverado 5.3l. Ordered one from Tbyrne, will have it in a couple days and get it installed.

Also have the wester's tune in. What a thrill it is to drive the truck.

On my 2005 the thermostat is a separate piece from the housing. The one that was ordered was all in one. But the part that wouldn't allow it to fit was the metal clamps off the housing holding the thermostat in place. They were to large to fit into the engine block opening.

It is interesting that none of the big auto part stores show a thermostat for the 2005, not even the standard temperature. I shall be awaiting the one from Tbyrne and put it in next week.

Have a good day.

Which one are you wanting the picture of. I kept the original thermostat just in case I need it for some reason.

I shall try to get the picture done tonight and post it. But yes, to me it is the old school type of thermostat.

Have a great truckin day.
