Well, finally got it done... I know a few of you have been waiting, but the good news is- it was worth the wait !!!

First, major thanks to MrTruck cheers Without him, there's no way I would have gotten it done this perfect.

I'll get the dyno charts scanned here shortly and update this Wink

Stock tune with the Volant installed was done about 2.5 years ago, at around 6000 miles. It was a DynoJet dyno. It was cold, about 45*, super-low humidity.

The other three pulls were all made yesterday at US Motorsports in Dallas. It was 95+ and high humidity. They also use a DynoJet dyno.

I know you can't compare dyno of different shops, even if they are the same model, however, I think the difference in temperature should make a huge difference in evening the field, plus the fact that my G-Tech has backed all the numbers to w/in a few hp. I had tested the truck when the stock tune was in not too long ago.

That being said... the good stuff Big Grin

Stock w/Volant 235.0hp 279.2tq

Tuned w/Volant 288.2hp 324.9tq (+53.2hp/45.7lbs with tune alone Big Grin)

Tuned w/stockbox 282.4hp 326.3tq (you can see the stockbox beat the Volant by 1.4lbs Razzer !!)

Tuned w/ aFe 302.8hp 328.6tq

The aFe gave 14.6hp more than the Volant, 20.4hp over stock !!!

And even better still, the aFe moved my torque peak down by 400rpm  , from around 4100rpm to 3700rpm.

And it's all big-time noticeable !!! It jumps out of the hole a whole lot stronger than before, and it has a screamin' top-end, too !!!! It sounds wicked with the tune and stock exhaust, although the Volant also sounded pretty good. The aFe just sounds even better !!!

The build quality is absolutely first rate, and a lot of time obviously went into the development of it. ALL of the pieces are made so they slide into each other, creating as smooth a transition from piece to piece as possible. By comparison, the stock intake, as well as the Volant, since it reuses the stock rubber couplers, have ridges the entire inner diameter of the pipes, as much as a 1/4" !!!!

The aFe is sooooooooo smoooooth thumbs up 2

So, Quadzilla has gained 67.8hp and 49.4ft/lbs of torque drool Not bad for an intake and mail-order tune !!!!!!!!!

I'll get the dyno sheets scanned and posted, ASAP. MrTruck took videos of all three pulls, as well as a bunch of pics for an install article, so I'll get those posted as soon as he gets a chance to get them over to me Wink That there is one busy man....

And, I'll got out later and pull a few G-Tech numbers and see what it says Big Grin

Whooooooooo-hooooooooo !!!!!!

burn out burn out burn out

First dyno, at around 6k miles.

Cold, about 47.5* outside, very low humidity.

Stock tune, Volant intake.

The Volant was the old-style, not the re-engineered style that is now available, right? Any chance we can get a dyno of the new-style one (or feedback from someone who has?)

The AFE kit you used - was that the Stage 1 or Stage 2 kit?

Thanks,

stage 2.

Y'all bear with me. I'm trying to get it set-up where I can get these direct to you at better than list price. List is kinda steep compared to the lesser kits our there, but the performance is definitely there thumbs up

How different is the AFE from the KN kit. I purchased the K&N cold air kit for my SD, do you think a westers will net me over 300Hp at the wheels?

Hmmm... hard to say. I'm not a big K&N fan, but I'm sure it's still better flowing than stock. I DO know I've seen their filters let a lot of debris by, tho. Not a good thing...

With a tune, intake, cooler stat, t/body bypass and 93 octane gas... you should be close. Also remember I'm at sea level, which helps.

Well comparing the two (AFE and KN) the piping and air filter box look extremely similar.

What was the 6.0 in the Silverado rated before you started? I am not completely sure what deviations are made between the SD and Silverado as far as the engine is concerned.

I have also read that the spark plug wires are worth a couple HP also.

I am not looking to tear up the strip, but it is sure fun to zip by the cell phone talkers and Sunday drivers, in a 5000lb+ vehicle.

The BIG difference I found between the aFe and my former Volant intake are inside the tube, specifically, the couplings. The Volant and stock units create HUGE obstructions in the airflow, while the aFe has recess formed inside the plastic and the couplers fit inside the recesses, so that when you run your fingers across them, they're nearly perfectly smooth. I'd guess the others create around a 1/4" obstruction Eeker !!!

And there lies the secret Big Grin

Anybody have any experience with the "Turbonator"? Does that fall into this thread. I have read a little about it and they make some pretty mean claims ???

The turbonator is an expensive intake restriction. Even if it is producing this proclaimed funnel action, does anyone think that this funnel action is making it past the throttle body blades and down the intake tract? Very unlikely. Put a piece of frayed cardboard in your intake tract. I am sure it will produce some air disturbance vorticies, but I don't think it will increase milage or power. It will just be using up relstate that could be used by air.
