I understand the advantages of both the venturi effect and the vortice effect (whether they are in fact achieved or not) so I guess my real question is:

"does the aFe brand also have or claim to have a vortice effect similar to the claims of the turbonator?"

if not, would it be worth mating the two up?

Dave, I appreciate your comments. You probably have more experience with this than me.

I would also like to hear from anyone who has any real life experience with the Turbonator (or similar product) and especially if they have any measured data to back it up.

No disrespect meant to your comments Dave, hope you get that.

Also...one thing I am curious about...with the aFe, is this a complete system including filters or are filters extra and could filters from other mfgs be used? I am curious because I read a great article that Mr. Quadrasteer posted where real measured tests were performed on various filter elements and I am curious how to mate up the "best" filter element (for my use) and the best intake "system".

I'm with Dave on the Turbonator, especially on FI vehicles, ESPECIALLY on our Vortec engines. They might have a positive effect on carb'ed engines, but I seriously doubt it'd do anything good or ours. And I'm always skeptical of any company's "dyno" reports when they're advertising their products.

Jim, as far as the aFe kit goes, both stages come with a filter. But, the aFe filter is pretty sweet- it's a cone, like most, but it's HUGE compared to the competition's, and it also filters from the end, where most are capped. And it has a H-U-G-E throat, like 4" or something. I also remembering seeing an actual "filtering" efficiency shoot-out where the aFe didn't score too bad compared to most of the competition. The stock GM paper filter did pretty good; the highly touted K&N was one of the worst.

I don't know if you could get the aFe kit w/out a filter, I guess you could contact them and ask beats me

Back to the turbonator thing, and pretty much all the cheap in-line items they make for the intake tract- spacers, venturi items, etc- I'd say stay away. I've seen documented proof of losses, few documented cases of gains (outside of the manufacturers).

If you wanted to research it more, I can't think of a better place than LS1Tech.com or PerformanceTrucks.com thumbs up 2

I'll keep beating this horse for a bit...

1. Is the aFe filter that comes with the unit cleanable/reusable?

if not

2. Do other manufacturers (to the best of your knowledge) make filters that can be used on the aFe device? I'm thinking about optimizing the "best" device with the "best" (?) filter (this after reading those filter testing results). Refer to "Hey, Mike !!! Air-filter comparo !!!!!" posting in this forum.

You realize of course you have just added the aFe stage 2 to my (getting longer) list of truck "stuff" to purchase. drool

The aFe filter is a reusable oil-type filter.
